Even though you work for yourself you still need to keep up with your NI payments. It’s important to contribute to ensure you are eligible for benefits in the future.

Class 2 National insurance

This replaces what some may know as the old “stamp” Class 2 is payable at £2.60 per week and means that you retian your entitlement to benefits such as incapacity if you can’t work and state pension when you come to retire. If you don’t make these payments throughout your time as self-employed then you could be in for a shock when you come to make a claim!

Class 2 can be paid by direct debit with the national insurace centre deducted a monthly amount from your bank account. You also have the option to pay quarterly by cheque if you prefer.
