Helena had never completed a self assessment tax return before so was a bit confused when she popped in to see her local accountant. They baffled her with tax jargon and wouldn't tell her how much they were going to charge. Helena decided to do a little research on the internet and came across Taxdoctor. She's glad she did!

Here's Helena's story:

I stumbled into becoming a landlord when I returned from living in New Zealand. I bought a house but then decided I wanted to move to Wales to live with my boyfriend. It all happened a bit quickly and I decided the safest option was to hold onto the house and rent it out.

I sorted out all the legal issues and had the boiler serviced and the electrics checked; tax was the very last thing on my mind at that point. Then about 2 months ago I was chatting to a friend who asked me if I had completed my self assessment tax return to declare the rent I received from my property.

I was a bit embarrassed as I didn’t want to admit to him that I knew nothing about what he spoke of! I thought it was best to get some advice. I work quite long hours and it’s tough for me to get out of the office during the day, I set aside an hour one lunch-time though and made an appointment with a local high-street firm of accountants.

I had the meeting and left even more confused that when I went in. They baffled me with tax jargon and I wasn’t even totally sure how much they were going to charge me for the service. So that evening I did some research online and that’s when I found out about Taxdoctor.
