Claiming tax back when you've overpaid

If the answer is yes to any of these then you could be due a tax refund. A tax refund is a payment made by HMRC when an individual has overpaid tax in a particular year, they can sometims be called tax rebates or claiming some tax back. The refund needs to be claimed by the taxpayer as the government won't automatically repay it.

The most likely to qualify are students, visitors to the UK, and people who have left a job partway through a tax year. Just because you're not in these groups though doesn't mean you won't be eligible, statistics show 1 in 3 people in the UK are due some money back.
